Victron Energy Meter EM540 RS485 connection

The 3-phase Victron EM540 with LCD display should always be used with a grid-connected system, as our houses are wired with 3-phase. Even with a 1-phase Victron inverter, you should use the 3-phase smart meter.

The EM540 can be configured for four different functions in a GX device:

1. Can be used as a network meter and as a control input for an ESS system
2. To measure the performance of a PV inverter
3. To measure the power of an AC generator
4. As an AC current meter to measure the AC output of an inverter or inverter/charger.

It offers two options for connecting to a GX device:

1. A cable connection via the RS485 to USB interface with a cable length of 1.8m or 5m
2. A wireless connection via Zigbee-to-USB and Zigbee-to-RS485 converter
